Azeban

at Thornes Marketplace in Northampton, MA

Ernesto had the pleasure to paint at Thornes Marketplace in downtown Northampton, Massachusetts.

The structure, a 5-story building, is a historic part of the town that was first constructed in 1873.

The mural features a racoon along with three weaver birds, which Ernesto often features in his work. He says the birds, which build incredible nests in the wild, build the atmosphere of the painting in his murals.

The piece was named Azeban. A local told Ernesto that Azeban is a raccoon trickster in folklore for the indigenous Algonquian people of the area.

Check out Brian Sullivan’s stories covering the mural with New England Public Media’s Connecting Point.
